You decide to stretch your legs and check out the station. It might help you wake up. You pass a queue of new passengers, all eccentrically dressed. Maybe there's a music festival down the line. You look around for some brochures to take and ignore while scrolling your phone. A man in the corner juggles souvenir pens. With time to kill, you consider your options. You'll be on the train long enough. You should soak up some local color. Or flavor. Or 30 minutes worth of something local-ish.

  • You walk to the far wall of the station and wipe the dust off the display case with your sleeve. Inside is a cavalcade of yellowing newspaper clippings, sepia-tone photos, and other similarly tinged memorabilia. The station, you deduce, was a popular stop for circus trains back in the era that was a thing. Suspenders and bloomers and lots of straw hats. Very Ken Burns. You've never been to a circus, except the bendy-people ones in Vegas. Still, it's evocative. The train signals time to board.
