Why do the rich think contributing to the economy makes up for not contributing to the community?

@rgulick@social.coop I mean, they're not even contributing to the economy. Extracting wealth is not creating wealth. Owning property is not providing housing. Owning shares is not producing value. Taking is not giving.

@rgulick@social.coop They believe that "value" is simply what someone would pay for a thing. For them, their wealth is proof of self-worth, and the suggestion that anything else could matter is sentimental nonsense.
