And with proper software support, you can get ~880 KB out of usable space with a FAT12 file system on 3.5“ DD disks (1 MB raw capacity):

• Bitte ein Bit (Uland Täffner)
• FCopy Pro (Martin Backschat)
• FDFORMAT.EXE (Christoph H. Hochstätter)
Which software did you use back then and now to increase the efficiency of your diskette media?

@3rz@freiburg.social i think at a time I have used any of these, but only for backups to increase local capacity. For exchange probably still used the safe 720kb format.
