For quite some time I've thought eventually I was going to have to learn how to use the `sftp` command line tool because `scp` was deprecated. Today I needed to look at the `scp` manpage for the first time in ages and there's a note now explaining that only the SCP _protocol_ is deprecated, and the `scp` _tool_ has been changed to use the SFTP protocol when the server supports it. So thank you #openssh folks for the clarification and for doing the work to keep `scp` working as I'm used to.
