@dschaub@mstdn.social @atpfm@mastodon.social @siracusa@mastodon.social How much RAM would we have right now if that slope was straight?

@dschaub@mstdn.social @siracusa@mastodon.social If the average slope from 1984 to 2012 had continued, what amount of RAM would the iMac have in 2024?

@dschaub@mstdn.social @atpfm@mastodon.social @siracusa@mastodon.social now plot that against price per mb (bonus if its inflation adjusted)?

  • @dschaub@mstdn.social @atpfm@mastodon.social @siracusa@mastodon.social my concern is that 8GB will be semi-permanently reserved by Apple Intelligence 😒

@dschaub@mstdn.social @atpfm@mastodon.social @siracusa@mastodon.social Is a drought over if it rains once and then not again for another decade?

@dschaub@mstdn.social @atpfm@mastodon.social @siracusa@mastodon.social Please make the y-axis powers of 2 not 10, or provide the raw data for I can make a plot with powers of 2 on the y-axis.

@dschaub@mstdn.social @atpfm@mastodon.social @siracusa@mastodon.social So what would the RAM be now if that line had continued at the same slope? 16TB?

  • @dschaub@mstdn.social love it! If I may share one nitpick: I think this chart would be even better if the lines continued horizontally until the next data point and then went straight up. (In plotly you can achieve this with line_shape=“hv”.) It more accurately represents what happened, since there was no slow climb from one level to the next but rather a jump.
