i got told about the game "Homicipher" and i dissapeared from this world for 9 hours. its not very long, but has tens of endings, touching and memorable characters and interesting very nonlinear plot about a girl who got trapped in some mystical world and tries to escape there is a game mechanic similar to "chants of sennaar" where you need to learn worlds, but you wont be given the right translation, you have only what you understood yourself, and your translations are written above the actual words if you need a short story for a couple of days - "homicipher" is a great option!
