Self-publishing platform Draft2Digital is introducing an activation fee ($20USD) and an annual fee ($12USD) for accounts earning under $100 annually. They say it's to combat the many "automated and low quality" slop accounts being created. Having to pay up front will put some off, and the fee will pay for staff and systems that review accounts and books. So taking them at their word, it's yet another example of AI screwing over authors. #Draft2Digital
