@hajovonta@mastodon.online @clayote@peoplemaking.games "Windows" isn't actually Microsoft Terminology. I saw GUIs for Atari ST and Apple Lisa that used the term "windows". Heck, "X Windows" is much older than "Windows 95" and both named itself after the windows term. And even if a term most probably stems from MS like the "Alt" and "AltGr" keys ... insisting on unfamilar terms like "Meta" and "Hyper" seems insensible. When did you buy last a keyboard with those keys? Insisting on outdated terminology like "frame" or "meta key" is weird. It's even more weird that according to Emacs news they now ponder about user-friendliness. Using terms that are unfamiliar to everyone excess the anointed ones doesn't seem user-friendly. I use Emacs almost daily since 20 years. But still I see warts.

@HolgerSchurig@social.tchncs.de This is more about convention, as I said. The US should switch to metric yet they are clinging to inferior and outdated measuring systems. But who knows. Emacs might gain popularity again some day and become mainstream. Other software would change terminology to match frame/window/buffer 😆 @clayote@peoplemaking.games
