@chiply@fosstodon.org I've always found this fascinating. Some of the news stories stress the "legality" of this race - no extra pacers that could have induced the runners to go faster.

Boston times don't count for world records because the course is too straight and downhill, but the record is still 2:01:52 (set in cool temps a couple of weeks ago). The London course is basically flat and has no preferential wind direction, yet they broke the record there first.
