As of last Friday, end-to-end encryption for Instagram direct messages is no longer available. DMs that you send to people on Instagram will no longer feature full encryption, and your conversations are not protected from Meta. Meta can potentially see what's in messages shared between users on Instagram, and that information can be shared with law enforcement agencies worldwide. #Instagram #Meta #Encryption https://www.macrumors.com/2026/05/08/instagram-end-to-end-encryption

@Yehuda@turtleisland.social Get off Instagram. Abstinence is the only guarantee.

@Yehuda@turtleisland.social I love it when my decision to get off all Meta products is vindicated. Even though I kind of lost touch with extended family because they seem to think if they post it on Facebook or Instagram, now everyone knows about it.

@Yehuda@turtleisland.social None of Meta's messaging platforms are truly end to end encrypted. Including Whatsapp. Meta eployees can access all of it. Some of it might offer better data security in transit, but that's just so Meta can profit from selling it.

  • @Yehuda@turtleisland.social Every day that goes by they make it harder and harder for me to stay. The only reason I've stayed is because it's popular, meaning that I can reach more people.
