It is amazing to me the number of people that won't even consider a piece of art unless it has been fully explained to them beforehand or has been granted the stamp of approval of an authority figure.

    @melondruie@sunny.garden :-) FWIW, I’m a bit like that in the first sense… I quite often find art interesting to look at, and I can have ideas about what might be implied, and that’s often enough… but I can frequently sense that the artist wants to say something, perhaps fairly specific, and I often have no idea what that is. Or there is some important context I’m woefully ignorant of. It’s kind of frustrating. Like not getting a punch line or a riddle. So - I’ve come to appreciate the little title card things, kind of like a hint in a computer game I suppose. I also think there is a possibility that this idea of actually understanding someone else’s message in an unambiguous way might be a kind of modern idea? That’s separate from art though :-)
