Seems like the question of #GitHub becoming fully unusable is not "if", but rather "when". We feel the issues now for the 5th month, and it's getting worse by the day. Today, out of 13 builds, 12 failed – either because of stalling when cloning the repo from GitHub or one of the submodules, or some other GitHub error message. Some builds we had to run 8 times to finally pass (and some of those only to find out their recipe needs adjustments, as e.g. the upstream APK was not built from the tag)…

@fionescu@mastodon.bsd.cafe We have all our stuff running at @Codeberg@social.anoxinon.de – which runs on Forgejo. True, they have outages, too (mostly caused by malicious actors performing DDOS and the likes). But they are responsive, reachable, you talk to real humans – and they get their stuff done fast. I guess much depends on your use case. But to us, it feels more reliable as Github, and provides good performance. So I can surely recommend it, if your use case matches.

@fionescu@mastodon.bsd.cafe We're all hoping for federation finally kicking in fully (they're working on it, and that's not an easy task for a forge – which is why it takes a long time: you don't want to ship half-baked stuff there, and all needs proper testing). Once that stage has been reached, decentralized forges really can take off, also making those DDOS stuff less effective (as those nasty actors no longer had a "single target") 🤞
