@will@ruby.social I love this. In grade school we had to memorize and recite poems. Finally they banned Shel Silverstein for Reasons. But not before I got to recite Sarah Cynthia Sylvia Stout Would Not Throw the Garbage Out, perfectly without a single stutter.
I think they banned it because a) it wasn't ~literary enough~ and b) too fun and therefore too easy to memorize.

@starkraving666@jorts.horse @will@ruby.social imagine finding a poet who brings the pages to life and instills in kids the joys of poetry, memory, extemporaneous delivery, and connection with their audience and then BANNING them; what even are schools? (I am fully joking. I know, as I'm sure we all must by now, what schools are.)
