@madduci@mastodon.social This will hopefully force replaceable batteries into ALL phones sold in global markets. It is enough of a design change that running two production lines for open back and closed back phones will cost too much. For graphene users, that means being able to keep the phone until it is no longer supported instead of when the battery swells up and pops the display. If you are not an activists or a migrant and nobody you know it, you might be able to keep such a phone until the CPU dies of electromigration. The phone industry wants to you buy a new subsidized phone from a carrier loaded with spyware every year of course. Even the worst phone batteries are good for 2-3 years. Final issue will be they can refuse to sell new batteries, but it's a lot easier to solder wires to a slightly smaller battery of convenience and to the battery contacts than to get the display off, take the whole phone apart, replace the battery, and reassemble. To do a battery of convenience on many phones today requires getting a power bank, gluing it to the phone, and connecting by a short USB cable. This BTW also works for cameras and power banks are both cheaper and larger than $80 phone batteries
