@lpbkdotnet@mstdn.social I've seen more pictures of ringers with mains motors than DC (and vaguely remember the ones I saw during work experience at British Telecom in 1980s being mains, and these were in large Telephone Exchanges) so I suspect that is how it was set up (as most places had fairly reliable mains electricity by 1970s, other than the power cuts which occured during industrial action)
