@dbat@mastodon.gamedev.place we already tried a distributed computation system without democratic institutions: the proof of work blockchain. That didn't go well. Distributing alone isn't going to fix the issue, markets are places where economic power ends up deciding what we do and how we do it, no matter the specific static laws... Universities are very happy to train models for good causes and in ethical ways, but governments decided to let private companies build data centres and do things, not universities...
