That said, under capitalism most of the fabrics or yarns you can buy at the store used all sorts of profit-increasing measures, including using harsh chemicals that weren't actually needed. Organic cotton and hemp might be better about this, but the regulation isn't as strict as they make it out to be. It's a difference of "probably" versus "definitely." Local makers might tell you more about how their fibers were processed, if they were involved or got that information from their suppliers
