Loice Chemnung (106/CHEMNUNG) is a relative rookie; she ran 2:18:24 to finish 4th in Chicago last fall, but then DNFed in Osaka in January. Since then she’s set a course record in the Barcelona half marathon (sub-1:04); she won the Kenyan 10,000m championship in 2025. First time in Boston, absolute wild card. Anecdotally considered the strongest challenger by Lokedi’s coach.

Bedatu Hirpa (107/HIRPA) ran 2:18:27 last year to win in Dubai. She’s also won in Paris, Prague, Riyadh, and Athens; the Athens win was nine years ago in 2017, when she was only eighteen. She’s never run Boston before, and she was 11th in Chicago last fall, so her history with Majors is uneven to say the least. She’s got some speed (she started out as a 1500m runner) so it will be interesting to see if she’s still in the pack coming out of Newton.
