Irine Cheptai (102/CHEPTAI) has the next best PR, a 2:17:51 she ran to take third in Chicago in 2024. She was fourth in Boston last year and second in Shanghai last November; her only big win was in Hamburg in 2024. She will be a factor in the pack but I’d consider her a long shot to win.

Workenesh Edesa (103/EDESA) has run a lot of marathons, many of them quite fast. She ran her PR of 2:17:55 in Hamburg last fall (2025) where she won. She’s also won in Osaka (twice), Sydney, and Prague; she’s run under 2:20 five times. She’s only run Boston once before, in 2024, when she finished 7th.
