@pathfinder@beige.party @autistics@fedigroups.social Exactly. It clicked for my last therapist when I said that it's not that I ever wanted to fit in, I just didn't want to stand out.

@barefootrambling@autistics.life @pathfinder@beige.party @autistics@fedigroups.social Heh, I just told a psychiatrist basically this the other day, about fitting in. I was basically as you describe in high school too, although I don't think I had as many contacts as you. But for the groups I did have contact with, this was much as it was like for me. But outside that, I did find my group. It was the local Star Trek club, a group with shared interests, communication, and values. And that I and others that I am still in contact with are convinced were mostly if not all neurodivergent. And all of the friends I have irl right now I met in that club all those years ago. And then there is online, these are my people. Even before I came here, my first "home" online was probably Slashdot, "News for Nerds", before it became overly corporate. Then I moved to Reddit, which is mostly special interests. But then that became overly corporate too. So I moved to Lemmy, which introduced me to the Fediverse, and then here, because of the much bigger user base. My point is that, not entirely liminal, but in neurotypical spaces, sure.
