There was this attempt to frame NEON as a superset of VFP, which almost-but-not-quite makes sense on a big core that has both, and I think the NEON-ish aliases ended up as the preferred spellings because of that.

@whitequark@social.treehouse.systems @regehr@mastodon.social @penguin42@mastodon.org.uk It's almost certainly the case if you're using an LLVM-based disassembler, as LLVM's support for VFP was historically atrocious. Apple only ever cared about cores with decent NEON support 🙂
