@tendstofortytwo@social.treehouse.systems @tauon@possum.city because Setup expects a valid Windows image to not only display the built-in EULA, but also to perform last-minute servicing (with the user's chosen localization settings; keyboard layout, time, language) at the end of the deployment process. additional operations such as installing optional storage drivers and language packs and (if needed) full OS component assembly also have to be performed against the Windows image. a Linux distro simply isn't one.

  • @winload_exe@wetdry.world @tauon@possum.city there's a copy of winpe in there in addition to alpine, the idea was that windows setup could do all that against the winpe, reboot into winpe, and then the winpe installs grub and makes linux bootable
