@eviltrout@carpdiem.online I'm not disagreeing with the sentiment, but even open platforms can "turn evil". For example, consider what Freenode did a couple of years back. The thing going for these open platforms is that the community can pretty quickly regroup and move elsewhere...much like vast majority of Freenode users moved to OFTC (a well established network) or Libera (the former Freenode admins setting up a new network overnight).

That's the first (sort of) federated social network chatty thingy with wide user space. Even Mastodon has seen instances worth blocking with evil moderators and such. The beauty of it is that you can pick the nice one and jump instances without having to learn a whole new way of using some platform. A single client application can handle all of your instances, just like with IRC. That's nice, I'd say.
