@clmerle@mstdn.social To be fair, you can recycle plastic (at least a couple times until the polymer chains become too short). The problem is that as soon as you mix plastics the whole batch becomes useless. Burning it isn't ideal, but still better than letting it sit outside until UV light breaks it down. That's how you get micro plastic. On that note, people throwing garbage on the ground or into rivers should receive capital punishment.

    @tecHunt@mastodon.social in Tucson, we started something called ByFusion. They take the non-recyclable plastic and turn it into plastic bricks. Not sure if you’d call it upcycling, but it will help get some plastics out of the environment. It can only be a transition away from reducing the production of plastics. I suppose you could do a Cask of Amontillado scenario with the litterbugs and the ByFusion bricks.
