I think it's very telling that legislators keep talking about how bad corporate social media is for mental health (which is true), but then instead of doing something about the core issue (ie. banning algorithms designed to give you an infinite feed or shit to keep you scrolling), they just introduce mandatory age verification, something guaranteed to not do anything about the issue but also guaranteed to not affect the bottom lines of big tech while compromising the privacy of millions.
