I generally like a pencil with an eraser, but the Tombow Mono line are so smooth to draw with. I tend towards HB because the balance of moderate hardness works well for me. But most any pencil line will have a range of hardness to find what you like.

What about those fancy Blackwings? Blackwing pencils haven’t really clicked with me — partially because the balance feels off to me when holding them. Many of the designs are nice, but wow are they pricey! And I seem to keep getting pencils with broken lead inside that just won’t sharpen. YMMV
