@leighms@mastodonapp.uk I hadn't realised it was there and so instead of looking through endless satellite images, I checked the topology and there are only two places I'd put it. Now I'm going to be wondering how fast it drains - and would it not be best to wait until summer instead of just after a really wet winter.

@HowardGees@mastodonapp.uk Apparently the plan is to shut off the inlet and let it run out 80% to supply over a couple of days. Only the last 20% gets run to drain because of risk.of crud if the last bit was allowed into water supply. The supply to the area will be continued via the Derwent main. Probably using a large portable high capacity pump to retain supply pressure. There should be no noticeable impact on supply. BTW don't put this on Facebook or anything like that. Nothing worse than closet experts kicking up a fuss over shit they don't understand.

@HowardGees@mastodonapp.uk It doesn't have much volume. Just a convenient header tank style arrangement to allow the area to be gravity supplied to get the pressure for ready to drink water. Was fascinating to see how the system works on the overview on the Severn Trent system on my sons phone. He can also tap into and control the various pumps and valves. Part of his job is to get more of the valves, pumps and pressure gauges replaced with ones that can communicate and be controlled. A lot still need someone to drive out with a big spanner to do things.
