Zygmunt Bauman described the postmodern human as a novelty seeker, but at least back then we got to choose our own novelties without perfect, real-time knowledge about what everyone else was doing. Now, there's, like, one social-media-influencer-sanctioned, "viral" novelty a week that everyone else has to spend their weekends in huge lines for, or roaming the country in search of an undepleted stock of, to be able to consume while it's still novel.

@eivind@fribygda.no And simultaneously 3000 awkward pathetic products in the discount bin that tried so hard but never achieved The Thing status for even fifteen seconds.
