@airakose@mastodon.gamedev.place If I understand right, in particle physics, interactions between two particles are sort of the average of a bunch of different intermediary states which have different probabilities. Some of these intermediary states aren't observed to actually exiat in reality, but seem to have an impact on the outcome anyway. Maybe "in this universe" simplifies the calculation (varying reduction in accuracy) by ignoring the possibility of states not observed to exist.
