@tobi82@swiss.social Is that French national the ONLY case that was not on the ship? Also note that with 23 passengers off the ship, if just ONE of them got hit with this shit and didn't even know it was there, there will be no way to trace every contact and every contact of a contact. We could get lucky and all of them were OK. We could roll a pair of ones and this shit already have gotten away into the community. Scenarios in between are also possible e.g someone passes it but the person receiving it holds it off and the spread ends there. At least the BBC report says this passes person to person in CLOSE contact. This is easier to contain than something that can spread across the room because a fan picks up droplets broadcast by nothing more than talking. The MPox outbreak in Gay men was a strain that only passed from skin to skin contact or presumably sustained contact with contaminated surfaces. Vaccines were made available first in the most useful places such as NYC bath houses, but were hard to get elsewhere. I had to get mine while I was in DC for unrelated reasons. Yet, this limited amount of vaccine combined with things like men in the clubs not looking for multiple partners in one night, and just plain avoiding the couches etc were enough to sink that outbreak by pushing new cases per infection to slightly below unity. The result was exponential decline to single digits in about six months. We not only contained it but snuffed it out, but get little credit for that. So the question is this: is this strain of Hantavirus covid level contagious, Mpox level contagious, or somewhere in between?
