Janet Mills wanted to retire, not become a senator. Chuck Schumer thought she should run anyway because old + centrist = "electable". Loyal, obedient Democrats of the small donor upper-middle class donated millions to the DSCC & other establishment organizations to fund her campaign. She flushed it all down the toilet on purpose.
