The US FCC is seeking public comments on whether the US TV ratings system should be updated to alert parents that certain TV content has "transgender and gender non-binary programming", and whether the current TV ratings are "appropriate for children and young children"
The public notice can be found here: https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2026/05/04/2026-08624/fccs-media-bureau-seeks-comment-on-further-empowering-parents-to-protect-their-children-and-make#addresses
The kind of language they are using frames trans people and gender diversity as things that parents might want to "protect" their children from, and uses careful choice of words to make the issue seem about "empowering parents"; these kind of words (empower, protect) are always used as feel-good words to mask discriminatory intent.
We don't need to update the TV ratings system; children easily understand trans-ness.
-> Comment period is open until May, 22, 2026
-> Public comments on this issue can be filed here: https://www.fcc.gov/ecfs/search/docket-detail/19-41
-> The "Express Filing" option will give you a text box to type in after you put your contact details.
we #trans and gender #nonbinary people are not threats to be identified, scrutinized, nor managed.
