Definitely agree. But will it happen? I work for an open source company myself and what i see is that users want a company behind a product. For support and compliance reasons. If we give boatloads of money to NextCloud (example), they will become the market leader and we will become dependent on them. So i agree that money needs to be poured into open source solutions, but NOT into open source with just one contributor or all contributors from the same company.

I think as you already said, the main issue is that for example a government want a contact person/company when something does not work with the solution they use. I could see stuff like https://lasuite.numerique.gouv.fr/en become more frequent. If I understand correctly, this is a government founded open source office suit that France and Germany finance and where everyone can contribute and self host it. But I am not sure if a company got contracted for the base code or not (the press releases are mostly in french and my french is not the best)
