@d10c@hachyderm.io From a purely western 12TET music theory angle I'd say piano/keyboard, just because it visually represents the tonal system of naturals and sharps/flats without any irregularities, and it's easy to explore both melodic and harmonic ideas. I've found people struggle way more with naming notes on guitar. Middle C or C4? On piano, there's no ambiguity whatsoever, but it exists 5 times on a guitar fretboard with 21-24 frets.
