@mynameistillian@plush.city @mawr@plush.city the AI boom didn't do nearly that much to boost employment, even in the early days. note the colours on the graph showing what kinds of job were created: they aren't just in AI production
also note that this graph shows the *change* in the number of jobs, not the number of jobs. if there was no job growth or loss then the line would be at zero, regardless of how many jobs there were. the first 4 years show a consistant growth of about 100k a year

@mynameistillian@plush.city @mawr@plush.city so that huge spike in 2021 if a lot of the old jobs that were lost being reopened rather than brand new jobs being created as companies rehired people to vacant positions all this helps us understand how LLM garbage is so much worse for the tech sector than covid
