wanting to figure out why it breaks like this, the outcome is different every time (and sometimes it does Nothing special and just fails)

(in case it isn't clear here, this is effectively a test of a custom load routine; i'm not using any of the BIOS routines for disk loading except for what's necessary to start the program)
