Never mind that it’s now so much more expensive to host things there vs yourself.

I just finished moving one of my projects from Digital Ocean to a leased server. Even with a second host for backups, it’s a lot cheaper and leaves me with plenty of excess capacity. It takes a little more time for maintenance but it’s not too bad.
