@rockmastermike@beige.party As an ADHDer who absolutely does not keep up with pop culture as much as I should¹, and someone who tries to avoid pictures of the assholes oppressing us to avoid taking the psychic damage, alt text has saved my ass on understanding things more than a few times. Also, when people take delight in writing their alt text, sometimes reading that can be as joyful as the thing they're describing. Especially when they put prose instead of sterile description, or drop the occasional wink wink joke. — ¹ by "should", I of course mean following the "right" TV shows and musicians so that I can engage in conversation with the average person even if those things they're talking about bore me and I can't make my brain behave long enough to convince them I want to talk to them.
