Yesterday was fun. I got to hear someone compliment the Latest Kate-on-whiteboard copy-drawings that I do, so now I have hard with my own ears what others have been telling me about them.
Also, as we were about to close, a little one was ready to have a floor tantrum about having to leave. I popped down to the floor to say hello, and instead of a floor tantrum, the child set up the wail of terror at having been Perceived by someone they found terrifying in the moment. Mission accomplished?

As I quipped to my coworkers at the time, "If I wasn't sure I'm damn good at my job, I might think I was in the wrong profession." Because this happens all the time, and while it could be the mask (yes, still), it was still happening before masking became a good idea. There's something intrinsically terrifying to a certain age, I guess, about having a grownup move from their level to your level and existing relatively close to you on that level. (I am still very good at my job, just not this.)
