@helge@mastodon.social Building Pebble watch faces are very very easy. But I get what you are saying. Problem is, I have no idea what to learn to make the switch. I kind of like C but nobody needs C developers. Rust... I don't know. Typescript? And with everyone shouting "AI is the dev now" I feel kind of useless.

    @dasdom@chaos.social Maybe try to get a job at Pebble! The CEO is _probably_ not to your liking, but the work might actually be really nice. @kilian@chaos.social might be able to introduce you! Not sure no one needs C devs, a lot of Linux is C. GNOME should still be plenty of C. KDE is C++ so, but there should be jobs. I think everyone shouts "AI is the *junior* dev now". I actually expect the demand for seniors to go up, because someone has to direct, understand and fix the slop. It's not a great job though 🙂

    @dasdom@chaos.social @helge@mastodon.social As an idea off the top of my head, you could use your knowledge together with a more approachable language (like Swift or Rust) to pave the way for a more memory-safe world of Pebble and other embedded devices. Swift Embedded is still in its infancy, for example, and IMO the embedded world could really use ideas of better tooling, package managers, …
