Say it's got 100 measures in it and it's in four so that's 400 beats (so the song is in the neighborhood of 3 or 4 minutes long depending on tempo). I rewrite the sheet music for the song so that it's in 400/4. It is a single measure containing 400 beats. It sounds exactly the same. We could just always do this, even for 20-minute prog masterpieces about hobbits. :3
