One chunk of lore in my head was that my father operated a linotype machine when he was in college. Molten lead cast into "a line of type" and then melted back down blew my mind. Unfortunately, my memory was wrong apparently. Dad reports: I never had the opportunity to operate a linotype, but when I was editor of the Graceland Tower, linotype was how it was printed in Lamoni Iowa. We switched to offset printing in Leon, where the image is burned onto a metal plate from a negative, giving much higher resolution and more flexibility in layout….But those linotypes had lots more mystique! 🤓 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linotype_machine https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MM4zc18ylow
