@futurebird@sauropods.win @michelestrider@mastodon.social I was traveling through a tiny town in Nevada this week and bought a used copy of Journey to the Ants by Hölldobler and O. Wilson. Not local, and science has undoubtedly learned much since 1994. Yet I plan to be fascinated by it and by ants. —a near lifetime* (casual) fascination recently encouraged by future bird. (Thank you.) I would stand behind a local insect and tiny critter guide in every motel. And campground. *My early childhood fascination with ants was adversarial, due to my disrupting "red ants" and blaming them for defending themselves. Somewhere along the way my attitude turned to respect and fascination.
