@shoq@mastodon.social I don't necessarily disagree with you, but posting a misattributed quote may not be the best way of singing the praises of good journalism.

It’s not a confirmed Orwell quote. As Quote Investigator and others note, there’s no definitive source for that exact wording—so it’s widely attributed but unverified. It closely tracks Orwell’s views, which is why it’s often credited to him. Good enough for me.

first time i heard this i thought it was such a great line. But then read somewhere it was from a newspaper owner from the early days of US gossip press, and that he meant it more like "if famous people are not upset when you write about their private lives, keep digging and find me some dirt cos we're not in the advertisment business, we're here to sell papers" @eribosot@mastodon.social @shoq@mastodon.social
