@webhat@infosec.exchange I haven't experienced this from a parent's perspective, but I remember when I was around 4 years old and losing my favorite toy at the time on a trip to see my great grandmother. It should be noted, that was about 50 years ago, too, and I still remember that. It was left at a Scotty's roadside hamburger joint in London, KY. They were like a knock-off White Castle My toy was a fuzzy monkey stuffed animal. I have Googled for that monkey over the years, lort know why, I am an adult now and it's just a silly kids stuffed monkey. Good luck, I hope someone finds it and returns it.

@paul@oldfriends.live I have trauma from losing a cuddly toy as a child, it still make me sad to think about it I don't want my child to experience the same Thank you 🫂

@paul@oldfriends.live I had a teddy bear which had a smaller teddy bear you could wrap his velcro clasping arms around. Of course that smaller one (dubbed 'little Ted') got lost when I was little... I remember how sad that made me feel too. Yeaaaars later I found that smaller one at a flea market in one of the cities we frequently went on vacation to. My headcanon is that it's the same one after they went on a loooong vacation trip themselves. I still have both, sealed in a bag, and every now and then they get a cuddle and I take a whiff of those childhood smells 😅 @webhat@infosec.exchange I hope your child soon gets reunited with their toy 💚

@paul@oldfriends.live I remember when I lost my 'gilet dodo'. I used to sleep with it, it was just a piece of an old vest but I loved it so. I think I was three or four when my mother decided she would throw it away. I cried as she gave it to the rag farmer, and asked him to give it back, but my mother wouldn't have any of that. I was heartbroken and still feel that pain. I can compute this all rationally, but the emotions run deep, and the questions about her decisions run deep. @webhat@infosec.exchange

@paul@oldfriends.live I'm sorry I didn't properly respond to this, reading it back And parents or adults tend to forget that to children it's not just a silly stuffed monkey, it's often the first member of their chosen family. And a member of your chosen family is never silly My stuffed elephant, the one I had since I was little, was adopted by one of my other children
