@BenLeverAU@aus.social @aj@gts.sadauskas.id.au If Australia were a country that did long-term planning, this would have spurred states to electrify the busiest diesel railways (reducing fossil dependency, and plugging into abundant renewables), rather than short-term deficit spending on free public transport until the next election, and then ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. (Looking at you, Victoria.)
Electrifying lines to outer-suburban growth areas should be a level-crossing-removal-tier priority project, followed by popular regional lines.
