@kimapr@ublog.kimapr.net @june@ublog.kimapr.net basically the church wanted a legal way to expand power, but there was a social barrier to marriage unless you married a sibling or cousin or widowed parent. so a lot of people just did that immediately when they were of age. this is also why arranged marriages exist, it's the legal bypass of it. they wanted to ban tax exemptions from marriages entirely but the church suggested that compromise instead
