in the past 52 weeks i went dancing 53 times. here are some semi-idiosyncratic beliefs i’ve developed around raves, dance parties, dancing. - one hour dj sets can be good but never great; you need at least two hours to really say something interesting - sets recorded live are better than sets recorded in a studio (not controversial) - crowd quality is very important; a truly great dance party has excellent music and an excellent crowd - the best parties ban cellphones - 3-4am at a party that goes to 6 is a special time - you need a dedicated chill zone where people can chat - in an ideal world room at the front ought to be reserved for Dancers; it is surprising to me how many people go to shows but then don’t really dance - mixed crowds are best. can’t have too many straight me; can’t have too many gay men. i have yet to experience having too many women but theoretically also possible
