A couple of wood pigeons nested on our balcony. We have been careful to not stress them but when they are away I go there to check. First there was no egg, then there was an egg. The female spent a day or two there ever so quiet. Today she was gone and so was her egg...

@tsrono@mastodon.social this was the first thing that came to my mind as well, but then I heard that it's common they eat their eggs if they are unfertilized or they give up on the nesting spot 🤷
