Given that the DNS *has* to be involved at some level, let's eliminate indirection (alias/callsign -> domain/URL) and go straight to a readily dispersed, cheap, uncontroversial, non-yachtable, not-for-profit namespace in the DNS. IOWs no indirection beyond a DNS lookup that works forever and relegates "Pretty Names", callsigns, aliases et al to rendered values or cross-checkable identifiers.
